Hildegard K. "Miss Hildy" Bentley, 88, of Americus, GA formerly of Albany, GA, died October 3, 2015 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 16, 2015 at Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate.
A native of Zurich, Switzerland, Mrs. Bentley was born on May 29, 1927 and had resided in the United States for fifty years. She moved to Albany, GA in late 60's and became an American Citizen in 1979. Mrs. Bentley had been a resident of Magnolia Manor in Americus, GA for the past six months.
She was known as "Miss Hildy" to most people; a YMCA swimming instructor who taught for over fifteen years. Many boys and girls plus adults will remember her telling them to "Reach and Pull, reach and Pull.....You Can Do It". She worked with adults with a fear of water and taught them to swim. Mrs. Bentley also worked part time at the Hallmark Store at The Albany Mall and was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church.
