Hilda McCorkle Vann, 96, of Dawson, GA died Thursday, July 20, 2017 at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Jeff Henry will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Edison, GA.

Born in Edison, GA, Mrs. Vann had resided in Dawson, GA since 1964 moving from Baker County, GA. She was retired from Belk’s Department Store in Dawson, GA. She was a member of the Sasser First Baptist Church of and was referred to as the “Mother of their Church”.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William Sydney McCorkle and Bonnie Holloway McCorkle, her husband, Alvin Vann, son-in-law, Hopson Irvin and great-granddaughter, Heather Griffith.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Vann (Darlene), Mike Vann (Leah) all of Sasser, GA, a daughter, Pat Irvin, Newton, GA, a brother, Don McCorkle (Margie), Albany, GA, a sister, Barbara Ferguson, Cuthbert, GA, five grandchildren, Vann Irvin (Deborah), Newton, GA, Traci Griffith (Ralph), Albany, GA, Blake Vann, Sasser, GA, Myles Vann (Sarah Youngblood), Atlanta, GA, Taylor Vann, Sasser, GA, four great-grandchildren, Mandy Irvin, Matthews, NC, Matt Roach (Mollie), Bainbridge, GA, Becky Short (Chan), Americus, GA, Jacques Irvin, Newton, GA, and five great-great-grandchildren, Hadley Stegell, Leesburg, GA, Kathlyn Short, Americus, GA, Bo Short, Americus, GA, Griffin Roach, Bainbridge, GA, and Hopson Roach, Bainbridge, GA.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 23, 2017 one hour prior to services at Mathews Funeral Home.
