Henry "Hank" Garner, Jr., (MSgt USAF, Ret), 81, of Sasser, GA, died January 21, 2017 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pastor Steve Youngblood will officiate. The United States Air Force Honor will provide Military Honors. Charlie Carver, Mike Morgan, Ed Walls, Kenny Sproul, Tom Arthurs, Glenn Edmonds, Jimmy Andros, John Tsiklistas, Mandell Dorminy, Robbie McCook and John Sellars, (The Burger King Boys) will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
A native of Portageville, MO, born to the late Henry and Hettie Mae New Garner, Mr. Garner joined the United States Air Force after High School, was a Vietnam Veteran and served twenty one years before retiring.
He moved to Albany, GA from the Philippines in 1977 and was employed with the City of Albany as Waste Water Supervisor for seventeen years. Mr. Garner moved to Sasser in 1999 and was a member of the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Commander of the VFW Post # 4825 in Sylvester, GA and was a past member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of The Elk. Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Garner, a son, Donald Garner, a brother and his wife, Berlin and Betty Garner and three sisters, Mary West and her husband, Melvin, Ollie Mae Motley and Ina Ellis.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Motley Garner of Sasser, GA, three children, Bill (Mary) Garner of Lexington, KY, Lee Ann Garner of Junction City, KY and Sue (Lee) Cates of Albany, GA, four step-children, Marcella (Mark) Wood of Moultrie, GA, Angela (George) Akins of Ty Ty, GA and Ricky (Sharon) Hobgood of Moultrie, GA, his siblings, Francis Perren of Knox, IN and Virginia Farmer of Doniphan, MO, grandchildren, Anna Mary Garner of Louisville, KY, Beth (Thomas) Harper of San Antonio, TX, Bill Garner, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA, Stephanie Johnson-Beck, Tiffany (Doug) Reppen and Sherry Garner and Autumn Garner of Burnham , IL four step-grandchildren, Becky (Hunter) Reagan of Moultrie, GA, Krista Wood of Orlando, FL, Deann (John) Akins of Omaha, NE and Reece (Jill) Akins of Valdosta, GA, two great-grandchildren, Emerson William Harper and Anna Bell Harper both of San Antonio, TX, four step-great-grandchildren, Bella Reagan, Eliza Jane Reagan, Taylor Akins and Marley Akins, three brothers-in-law, John Ellis of Jonesboro, AR, Walt (Tressa) Green of Charleston, SC and Smitty (Elizabeth) Carter of Port Orchard, WA and a daughter-in-law, Zyla Garner of Burnham, IL.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday at Mathews Funeral Home.
