Henry Joseph Crook, Jr., 79, of Albany, GA, went to be with Jesus on June 14, 2011 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Cook and Rev. Greg Davis will officiate. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of Phenix City, AL, Mr. Crook had resided in Albany, GA since 1975 moving from Cincinnati, OH. He graduated from Smiths Station High School, attended Auburn University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Crook was employed with Calhoun Concrete Company (now Sherman Pipe Co.) for over thirty years.
Mr. Crook served as a Chaplain with Phoebe Pastoral Care and also served as a bi-vocational minister of music for over twenty five years for churches in Alabama, Ohio and Georgia. He was a member of Gillionville Baptist Church and the Marshall Raughton Sunday School Class. Mr. Crook was also a Master Mason and an emeritus member of Dougherty Lodge #591 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Crook of Albany, GA, two daughters, Vickie (Steve) Knuckles of Sasser, GA and Bethany (Kevin) Whitlock of Orange Park, FL, a sister, Judy (Buddy) Harden of Phenix City, AL, eight grandchildren, Bryan Whitlock, David Whitlock, Adam Whitlock, Michael Whitlock, Sarah Knuckles, Anna Knuckles, Rachel Knuckles and Conner Knuckles and two great-grandchildren, Caridee Whitlock and Blake Whitlock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Joseph Crook, Sr. and Doris Crook and two sisters, Elizabeth Howard and Barbara Ann Redden.
The family will receive friends one hour (1:00 PM until 2:00 PM) before the funeral at Mathews Funeral Home.
