Heather O'Connor

After an extended battle with cancer, Heather Waters O’Connor, 58, of Lee County, GA passed away July 22, 2024 at Willson Hospice House.

She was the epitome of courage and strength as she fought the disease for over 11 years. Her perseverance and positive outlook was admired by all who knew her.

Heather was born on April 11, 1966 in Topeka, KS and moved to Albany, which became her home at a very young age. She attended Albany High School and was a part of the last graduating class of Albany Junior College in 1987. Heather was employed by Phoebe Putney for thirty-eight years as a

Registered Nurse and Diabetes Educator. She was a life-long member of Porterfield Memorial Methodist Church. She loved reading, the beach, and the North Georgia Mountains. Above all, her family was her heart. Her faith in God led her ministry, offering love and support to those on her same journey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Sharon Waters, a sister, Gretchen Townsend and a brother, Samuel Waters, Jr.

Survivors include her husband Mark O'Connor of 36 years, and two daughters, Elizabeth O’Connor and Raeanne (Dalton) Williams all of Lee County, GA, a sister, Staci Hawkins of Topeka, KS and two grandchildren, Jaelynn and Emma Cantrell.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Porterfield Memorial Methodist Church. Rev. Chuck Knight will officiate. A private family interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
