Harold Lee Johnson, Sr., 83, of Lee County, GA, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron McCulley officiating. Interment will follow at Leesburg Cemetery.
A native of Lucille, GA, he was born to the late Raleigh and Mary Lavania Houston Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a 1954 graduate of Albany High School and received his associate degree from Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA where he was a star athlete in both basketball and baseball at both schools.
Mr. Johnson had resided in Albany, GA since 1939 and moved to Lee Co., GA in 1998. He was employed with the United States Post Office as a Letter Carrier for thirty eight years and was a certified referee and umpire with the GA High School Association for High School sports. He also coached city league sports forty years. Mr. Johnson was a member of Philema Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Harold "Lee"Johnson, Jr.
Survivors include his Beloved wife, Virginia “Juanita” Johnson of Lee County, GA, his three daughters, Jill Majewski (Larry) of Milwaukee, WS, Patricia Osborne (Ricky) of Stone Mountain, GA, Donna McDonald (Steve) of Albany GA, and Steve (Mallory) Johnson of Albany, GA, his three sisters, Lilly Ann McNutt, (Ben) Landra Baxley (Bobby) and Vicky Judy all of Lee County, GA. He was Blessed with fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He often said that "His family was his fortune".
The family will receive friends on Monday one hour before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
