Harold James Farr

James H. (Jim) Farr, 85, of Albany, GA, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Thundering Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.

Jim Farr was born in Centralhatchee, GA in 1927. While still young, his family relocated to Langdale, AL, where he began working in a cotton mill during his early teens. Jim slowly but surely grew weary of his stressful home life and adult-sized workload, and so after WW II broke out he planned to escape. At seventeen he signed up for the United States Marine Corps, a decision that not only freed him from the cumbersome chains of rural living, but also gave him a life filled with meaning and morality.

During his service in the Marine Corps, Jim met Marion Ethel Cox, and after courting her for just two months, asked her to be his wife. Their marriage has held strong, even through his last breath. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1968 as a Gunnery Sgt., and then began his career at Firestone, which he retired from fifteen years later.

James H. Farr is a man whose life is supported by a foundation of hard work and dedication, and although he was ready to fight for his country at the drop of a hat (even when bound to a hospital bed and an IV), he was a very kind man who was full of love and compassion for the world around him. May God watch over his soul, as he continues his spiritual journey upward into eternity.

Survivors in additional to his wife are, two sons, Jamie Farr (Lori), Lake Blackshear, GA, Danny Farr, two daughters, Marie Barton (Luke) and Maggie Taylor all of Albany, GA, seven grandchildren, Matthew Barton, Darick Taylor, Shane Barton, Ryan Farr, Dustin Taylor, Taylor Farr, Mackenzie Farr and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
