Grover Thompson (Tom) Mitchell

Grover Thompson (Tom) Mitchell, 80, of Albany, GA, died Wednesday, 3, 2014 at Perry Hospital in Perry, GA. Memorial services will be held Friday at 6:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home. Billy Hanna will officiate.

A native of Monroe, GA, he was born to the late, Will Dock Mitchell and Alice Thompson Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell graduated from Monroe Area High School and attended Georgia Southwestern College where he played basketball. He served in the Georgia Army National Guard and moved to Albany, GA in 1955.

Mr. Mitchell was employed with Pritchett Ford for twenty five years and retired from Albany Lincoln-Mercury. He was member of First Free Will Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a brother, Job Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife, Doris E. Mitchell of Lee County, GA, three daughters, Lisa Mitchell Wright and her husband, Tard of Lee County, GA, Michele Mitchell of Atlanta, GA and Melissa Poppell and her husband, Mark of Franklin, TN, a son, T. J. Mitchell of St. Simons, GA, five grandchildren, Quin Wright, Drew Wright, Peyton Poppell, Isabella Pappell, Blake Poppell, one great-grandson, Samuel Wright, a sister-in-law, Becky Mitchell of Monroe, GA and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the service.
