Greg Gibson

Gregory L. Gibson, 67, of Miller County, formerly of Leesburg, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the Willson Hospice House. His memorial service will be 11:00 AM Friday, August 23, 2024 at First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. David Postlewaite officiating.

Greg was born in Atlanta, but because of his father’s job, lived in many places, including Swansea Wales during his teenage years, which allowed him to travel throughout Europe. He was a retired Allstate Insurance Agent. Greg moved to the Gibson Farm in Miller County in 2022, which was always home to him. He enjoyed helping others, woodworking, tending to the farm, conservation, and serving as a scout leader. Greg was a loyal member at First Free Will Baptist Church since joining in 1980 where he served as a trustee for many of those years.

In 1974 he disassembled a windmill that his grandfather had originally purchased in 1934, moved it to the family farm where it sat disassembled until 2004 where he erected it as a fully functioning windmill complete with a well. When Hurricane Michael came through and knocked out power, he was able to furnish water to neighbors in need. 

Survivors include his children, Ben Gibson (Miranda), Warner Robins, Jamie McDowell (Casey), Carrollton, grandchildren, Ryan and Cash McDowell, Amelia and Bennett Gibson, brothers, Steve Gibson (Kathy), Novato, CA, Harry Gibson (Lorena), Edmond, OK, mother of his children, Connie Gibson, his aunts Chirstine Daniel and Elizabeth Britt, fiancée, Deborah Sheree Taylor and over 20 first cousins. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at First Free Will Baptist.

In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to First Free Will Baptist Church or the Flint Riverkeeper organization.
