Grace Cherry Kitchen Champion, 91, of Albany, GA, died Friday, January 1, 2016 at Morningside Assisted Living. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Duane Whittaker will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Born in Eastman, GA, Mrs. Champion moved to Albany, GA in 1954 from Tifton, GA. Mrs. Champion was a retired accounting clerk at MCLB and was a member of the American Legion Post # 30 Auxiliary, Golden Key Club, Adult Sunday School Class at Trinity United Methodist Church, the 49’ers at Avalon United Methodist Church, a member of NARFE and a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1954. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Maurice Clyde Kitchen, Jr. and James E. Champion, Jr., a brother, William H. Cherry, a sister, Dorothy Cherry Newbern and a granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Green Lyon.
Survivors include two daughters, Cherry L. Garrett (Jerry), Albany, GA, Maureen Kitchen Lyon, Leesburg, GA, five grandchildren, Teresa Erickson (Darin), Leesburg, GA, Peggy McCollum (Asa), Albany, GA, Paul Garrett, Gregory Lyon, Leesburg, GA, Paige Trone (Adam), LaGrange, GA and seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Erickson, Dylan Erickson, Garrett Hiers, Landon Lyon, Keira Trone, Isabell Trone and Freddie McCollum.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
The family is at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Garrett, 116 Shady Glen Lane, Albany, GA.
