Grace Hartley Bowden

Grace Hartley Bowden, 94, of Lee County, GA, died February 22, 2015 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church. Rev. Bruce Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Thundering Springs Church. Nephews of Mrs. Bowden will serve as active pallbearers.

A native and lifelong resident of Lee County, GA, Mrs. Bowden was born at home to the late Dock and Annie Mae Hartley, Sr. She attended Lee County Schools and was formerly employed at Coats and Clark and Way's Florist.

Mrs. Bowden spent most of her life as a homemaker and an active participant in her church. She was currently a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Bowden, her sisters, Lucy Akin, Mae Williams Sheets, Minnie Gardner and Shirley Butts and a two brothers, Bud Hartley and Ual Hartley.

Survivors include two brothers, Harold Hartley and his wife, Beth and Dock Hartley, Jr., a sister-in-law, Geraldine Hartley all of Lee County, GA. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at New Hope Baptist Church.
