Grace Jones Bell, 86, of Albany, GA, died Friday, December 30, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 2, 2023 at 11:00 am at Lakeside Baptist Church. Rev. Andrew Kornegay will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Bell was born in Mitchell County, GA on February 13, 1936 to James and Alice Jones. She graduated from Mitchell County High School in 1954 and moved to Albany, GA to attend Business School. After graduation, she was employed with Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company as their Secretary and Bookkeeper.
She met her future husband, Fred W. Bell, at Raleigh White Baptist Church where he spotted her singing in the choir. They married in 1957. They started their family and a business, Albany Tree Service where Mrs. Bell handled the bookkeeping. She was a homemaker, wife and mother until her children were grown and then she continued her career with H & R Block.
Mrs. Bell was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and the Heaven Bound Sunday School Class. She enjoyed working in her yard, her flowers and her vegetable garden.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Rev. Fred W. Bell, her parents James and Alice Jones, and her brothers James Robert Jones and George Ward Jones.
Survivors include her sister, Martha Jones Cannon (Jimmy) of Opelika, AL, her sister-in-law Jean Bell of Greer, South Carolina, her children, Sharon Bell Jackson (Danny) of Montgomery, AL, Suzanne Bell Long (Keith) and Sandi Bell Burdette (Kyle) all of Lee County, GA and Steve F. Bell (Mai) of Albany, GA, her grandchildren, Laura Stair (Thomas) of Lee County, GA, Daniel Jackson (Andrea) of Lakeland, FL, Sara Fletcher (David) of Lee County, GA, Katie Schmeltzer (Chris) of Albany, GA and Sam Burdette of Lee County, GA and her great-grandchildren, Ellie, Jasper, Elianne, Benton, Blaire and Beau, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Lakeside Baptist Church before the service on Monday.
