Gordon Hitchcock, 96, of Albany, GA, was born on January 17, 1919 and died October 24, 2015. His wife of nearly 75 years, Dora Hitchcock, precedes him in death. Visitation will be held in advance of the Funeral Service on Wednesday, October 28th at Mathews Funeral Home at 10:00 AM. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM and Rev. Ralph Horne will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of McMinnville, TN he was the thirteenth child born to the late Sam and Nancy Hitchcock. He was extremely proud of his family and always made the trip home to celebrate the Hitchcock Family Reunion. Mr. Hitchcock moved to Albany, GA in 1954 where he opened Hitchcock Floor Finishing. He loved his work so much he didn't retire until his early 90s.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Gene and Kathy Hitchcock of Albany, GA, two daughters, Brenda Creasy of Newnan, GA and Gloria Gaughf and her husband, Ron of Vero Beach, FL, five grandchildren, Reeves Hitchcock of Athens, GA, Jessica Hitchcock of Bethesda, MD, Mark Creasy and his wife, Julie of Sharpsburg, GA, Michael Creasy and his wife, Kelly of Dallas, GA and Pamela King and her husband, Brian of Glen Allen, VA, five great-grandchildren, Olivia Creasy of Athens, GA, Caroline Creasy and Garrett Creasy both of Dallas, GA, Allison Creasy of Sharpsburg, GA and Grace King of Glen Allen, VA.
The family wishes to thank all of Mr. Hitchcock's caregivers, in particular Jacqueline Myrick-Lane, Betty Williams, Tonya L. Myrick, R.N., Magdalene Tucker, Delois Clanton, and Clara Speight. Also to Jacqueline's grandson, Justin, thank you for the smiles.
