Gladys "Bunky" Mathis

Gladys T. “Bunky” Mathis, 93, of Dawson, GA died Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

Mrs. Mathis was born in Georgetown, GA on March 2, 1929 to Jessie and Mary Bridges.  She moved to Dawson, GA when she was in the 9^th grade and graduated from Terrell County High School in 1948.  Mrs. Mathis married the late Edward Daniel Mathis in 1958 and was employed with the Yale Rubber Manufacturing Company in Dawson.

Mrs. Mathis was a member of the Sharon United Methodist Church in Quitman County and enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting and sewing.  She was the official Score Keeper for the Dougherty, Terrell and Lee Counties Recreation Departments for many years.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two grandchildren, Brenda Marie Davis and Randy Davis.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Whitley of Albany, GA and Bobby (Cathy) Mathis of Dawson, GA, a grandchild, Samantha (Jase) Rambo of Calhoun County, GA and two great-grandchildren, Aiden Rambo and Keilan Rambo.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
