Gilbert Oliver Stokes, 75 of Lee County Georgia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at his residence on Friday April 19, 2024. Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. American Legion Post #30 will provide Military Honors. Dr. Doc Rufus Willliams will officiate.
Born on October 23, 1948 in Dover Delaware to the late Ronald and Eleanor Cosden Stokes. He graduated from Caesear Rodney high school and joined in the U.S. Marines and served his country during the Vietnam War. After serving in the military, he had other careers during his life but he was lastly known for working with Flint Equipment in their part sales counter.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #30 and served on their honor team where he participated in many military funerals. He was also a member of the VFW Post #2758 and the Albany Marine Corps League.
Gilbert loved God First and loved his family, and was very proud of his grandchildren. He was always found telling good jokes to anyone that would listen. He had a gift of being able to build or fix anything that he put his mind to. Gilbert was of the Baptist Faith.
He’s preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patricia Magnone.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years Linda Stokes of Lee Co. GA, daughter, Lora Stokes and her husband Calvin Langford of Plant City FL, his son Christopher Stokes and his wife Lisa of Leesburg, GA, grandchildren, Gilbert Taylor Stokes, Temperance Lynn Hunt, Austen Calvin Langford, Tyler Alexander Smart, Sarah Ashley Stokes, Zoey Michelle Stokes and two great-grandchildren, Zaydah Lynn Stokes, Zander Allen Stokes. his siblings, Susan Stokes, David Stokes (Barbara) and Nancy Stokes, aunt Alice Cosden, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a dear friend, James Manuel.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Mathews Funeral Home from 10:00 Am until 11:00 Am
After the memorial service the family invites family and friends to join them at the American Legion Post #30 for fellowship at 2916 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA, 31721.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that you may make donations in honor of Gilbert Oliver Stokes to, The American Legion post #30, 2916 Gillionville RD, Albany, GA, 31721, or The VFW Post #2758, 315 Philema Rd, Albany, GA, 31707 or to the Albany Marine Corps League.
