A memorial service will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, at 11:00 am at the chapel of First Methodist Church of Albany. Rev. Jim Morrow and Rev. Anna Miller will officiate, with remarks by Dawson attorney T. Gamble. Inurnment will follow in the Church Prayer Garden.
Reggie was born in Columbus, GA, on August 6, 1936, to Johnny and Trudy Hartin. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1954. Reggie attended The University of Alabama and Georgia Southwestern College.
Reggie moved to Dawson, GA, in 1959 and owned and operated Dawson Concrete and Supply Company, and was active in local government there. He served on Dawson’s City Council for 6 years, with 2 years as Mayor Pro Tem, and served 6 years on the Board of Directors of the Terrell County Chamber of Commerce. Reggie also served a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the Building Materials Merchants Association of Georgia. He moved to Albany, GA, in 1981 and was the owner/broker of Wildwood Properties until his retirement. While active, he served a 2-year term on the Board of Directors of the Albany Board of Realtors. Even though he attended The University of Alabama, he was a true Bulldog Fan unless they were playing Alabama. He had a very great friend in Robert Ivey.
Reggie was a member of The First Methodist Church of Albany. He enjoyed, more than anything, golf and Georgia Bulldogs football. He played golf until he couldn’t, and loved watching it and football on TV. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George Reginald Hartin, Jr. and a daughter, Kim Price.
Survivors include his loving wife, Suzanne Leach Hartin of Albany, GA, and children, Mary Margaret “Missy” Hartin and Donald Franklin Hartin both of Albany, GA and George Reginald “Reg” Hartin III of Dawson, GA, Chris Etheridge and Tamie Williams both of Albany, GA, his siblings, Sue Trubow of Chicago, IL and John F. Hartin, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in the Parlor of Walden Chapel, First Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorials in memory of Reggie to Georgia Hospice Care, Albany Branch 811, 2425 Westgate Drive, Suite 121, Albany, GA, 31701.
