Gail Murphy

Gail Hedrick Murphy died peacefully early Sunday morning February 10, 2019 at Willson Hospice House after a long illness during which she was surrounded by her loving family.  

Her funeral service will be Thursday 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Rev. Thad Haygood will officiate. 

Gail was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Clarice S. Hedrick.  She grew up and lived her entire life in Albany.  She is survived by her husband, James C. “Bo” Murphy ; children, Hillary Ann Murphy, Albany, GA, Jackson C. Murphy and his wife, Abby, Albany, GA and Amanda M. Dragan, Nashville, TN;  grandchildren,  Austin Murphy, Evan Dragan,  Anabelle Dragan, Cooper Dragan, McCall Nicholson, and Davis Nicholson;  brother, William H. Hedrick and his three children.

Gail graduated in 1968 from Albany High School.  Although she spent most of her life as a full time wife and mother, she also was employed in the Customer Service Department of First State Bank, with H.H. Hedrick and Sons, and Hedrick Appraisal Services.  She was a former member of the Junior League of Albany and a member of First United Methodist Church where she served for many years working with the youngest members of the church, the babies and children.

Family and friends will remember Gail as a gracious hostess who loved nothing better than opening her beautiful home and generous heart to them.  Many will remember her greeting them with a smile and sincere welcome. She loved trips to the beach and the mountains, especially with her children and grandchildren who will always remember their “MeMe.”

Visitation will be held at First Methodist Church on Thursday, February 14 from 1 till 2 p.m.
