The funeral service of Fred Harvey Ward, Jr., 81, of Albany, GA, died Monday, August 6, 2012 at Phoebe North Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Greg Davis will officiate. The Tri-County Memorial Club will present Masonic Honors. Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. The Hasan Legion of Honor will serve as active pallbearers.
A native of Bainbridge, GA, born to the late Fred and Sara Johnson, Sr., Mr. Ward graduated from Bainbridge High School and moved to Albany, GA in 1956. He was a chief warrant officer in The Georgia Army National Guard, served in Desert Storm and retired after thirty eight years of service. Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah (Dee) Ward in May of this year.
Mr. Ward was a member of Central Baptist Church and The American Legion Post # 30. He was a member of and Past Exalted Ruler of The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge # 713 in 1993 and served as Past District Deputy. He was also a member of Dougherty Lodge # 591 F&AM and Hasan Shriners, where he was a member and Past Commander of The Legion of Honor.
Survivors include his daughters, Brenda G. Ward of Orlando, FL, Donna W. Craig of Barnevald, NY and Wendy Ward Waller and her husband, Seth of Springboro, OH, three sisters, Sara Lou Duce of Austin, TX, Jessie Parker of Springhill, TN and Carolyn Phillips of Bainbridge, GA, a brother, Charles Ward of Donalsonville, GA and two grandchildren, Luke Ward Waller and Maura Surin Waller both of Springboro, OH.
The family will receive friends Saturday at Mathews Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346 or to your favorite charity.
