Fred Powell, 87, of Albany, GA, died February 6, 2013 at Wynfield Park and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Crown Hill Cemetery. Pastor Bruce Smith will officiate and Tri County Memorial Club will present Masonic Rites.
A native of Fitzgerald, GA, born to the late Thomas Lindsey Powell and Lillie Mae O'Malley Powell, He had resided in Albany, GA for the past sixty eight years. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II. Mr. Powell was retired from The Albany Fire Department and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Albany. He was a fifty year Mason, a member of Dougherty Lodge # 591 F & AM, Hasan Shriners and served on the Directors Staff. He was preceded in death by his wives, Gracie Mae Powell and Ruth Greene Powell, a daughter, Lynette Powell and three brothers, Henry Powell, Jimmy Powell and T.K. Powell.
Survivors include his son and his wife, Larry and Kay Powell of Haw River, NC, two brothers, Gilbert Powell of Centerville, TN and Bill Powell of Tallahassee, FL, two sisters and their husbands, Edwena and Mack Bankston of Dublin, GA and Eloise and Jim Handley of Jonesboro, GA, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at Mathews Funeral Home.
