Flo Bentley Powell, 91, of Lee County, GA died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Wynfield Park Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 8, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home with visitation to follow. Pastor Bobby Moye will officiate. Graveside commitial services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of Wilkinson County, Georgia, Mrs. Powell was born to the late Willie C. Bentley and Nina Mae Bentley. She graduated from Middle Georgia College in 1942. She was employed as a secretary at GA-FL-AL Peanut Association in Camilla, GA (1942-1945), Albany Production Credit Association (1945-1947), and Spence Geiger Co., Albany, GA (1967-1970). She operated a private bookkeeping service from 1959 to 1967.
She was an active member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Over the years, Mrs. Powell served in many capacities at Byne Memorial, First Baptist Church (Albany), and was a charter member of Sherwood Baptist Church.
. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons, and four brothers: Spencer, Earl, Harold, and Richard Bentley.
She is survived by her husband Dallas H. Powell; daughter Gwen P. Owen of Lee County; grandson Andrew Owen (Allison) of Quitman, GA; granddaughter Amanda Sheets (Bryan) of Portland, OR; sister Janet Lawing of Acworth; brothers Jimmy Bentley (Kat) of Milledgeville and David Bentley (Jane) of Atlanta.
