Eugene Cleveland Alred

Eugene Cleveland Alred, 86, of Leesburg, GA passed away, Monday, September 26, 2022 at Savannah Court of Camilla in Camilla, GA. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.

Born March 25, 1936 in Doerun, GA to the late Homer Cleveland Alred and Lois Whittington Alred Mr. Alred grew up in Leesburg, GA and attended the public school system and was a graduate of Leesburg High School.

Mr. Alred farmed until he went to work at the Lee State Prison where he retired after twenty years of faithful service. He also worked at the prison as a certified welder and also had a welding shop where he spent his off-time. He served as a constable with the Lee County Magistrate’s office for several years before retiring.

There was never a dull minute for Gene, he was called upon to catch anything from a cow that had gotten out and was a professional trapper for individuals as well as local plantations. He could catch anything from a rattlesnake to a bob cat and had photos to prove it.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Willingham Alred.

Survivors include his son, Jimmy Alred and his wife Diane Alred, Leesburg, GA.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
