Ernest "Leon" Clemons, 77, of Albany, GA died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Becca Rutherford will officiate. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery with Military Honors.
A native of Avon Park, FL, Mr. Clemons grew up in Jacksonville, FL, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and served in the United States Army in Korea. He had resided in Camilla, GA and was employed with the Camilla Police Department before moving to Albany in 1966.
Mr. Clemons was employed with the Albany Police Department and retired from the Dougherty County Police Department after 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the Southwest Georgia Association of Retired Law Enforcement, and American Legion Post 30. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee Clemons and Minnie V. Clemons Gardner.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Payne Clemons of Albany, GA, two sons, Timmy Clemons of Jacksonville, FL, Alfred Lee Clemons and his wife, Stephanie of Albany, GA, grandchildren, Jason Corey Clemons, Warren Earp, Mallory Cox and her husband, John all of Albany, GA, Jessica Navarro and her husband, Vince of Tampa, Fl, Patricia Clemons, Jamie Clemons, all of Pelham, GA, four brothers, Billie Clemons, Larry Clemons and his wife, Margaret, Adam Clemons and his wife, Liz all of Bainbridge, GA, Jimmy Gardner and his wife, Cindy of Jacksonville, FL, three sisters, Mary Count and her husband, Leonard of Gainesville, GA, Diane Bramblett and her husband, Malloy and Jane Harrison and her husband, Gary all of Bainbridge, GA.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
