Emma Jewel Baker, 86, of Albany, GA died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Ken Chancellor and Rev. Paul Mason will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A native of Bronwood, GA, born March 13, 1926, she was the youngest child of the late Fred and Lennie Fletcher Watson, Mrs. Baker graduated from Bronwood High School as Salutatorian in1943. She resided in Albany, GA from 1946 until 1974, moved to Sylvester, GA before returning to Albany in 2000.
Mrs. Baker was employed with Southern Bell before serving as the financial secretary for the First Baptist Church of Sylvester. She was currently a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and had taught Sunday School for more than fifty years. Mrs. Baker loved flowers and enjoyed working in her yard. She never met a stranger, was loved by her family and will be missed.
Survivors include her husband of sixty six years, Elton E. Baker of Albany, GA, two sons, Robert Watson Baker of Albany, GA and Dale Alan Baker and his wife, Shannon of Albany, GA, a sister, Mary Motley and her husband, Bill of Danville, VA and four grandchildren, Paul Baker and Amy Baker both of Athens, GA and Caleb and Callie Baker of Albany, GA.
The family will receive friends Friday, one hour before the funeral at Mathews Funeral Home.
