Emilio Daniel (Pete) Gonzalez, 82, of Worth County, GA, died October 25, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Bruce Gordon and Ross Powell will officiate. Entombment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of New Haven, MI, Mr. Gonzalez was born to the late Felisitos Gonzalez Cantu and Guadalupe Becerra. He graduated from High School and joined the United States Air Force. Mr. Gonzalez served as a radio operator on B-52's during the Korean Conflict. He moved from Orlando, FL where he was employed with the Orlando Police Department for six years to Albany, GA in 1961 and was employed with the Albany Police Department. Mr. Gonzalez later went to work with the Albany Post Office and retired in 1988 after twenty-six years as the Superintendent of Mails.
He was a former member of Sherwood Baptist Church and currently a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. Gonzalez was a member of and past president of the Albany Coin Club, he was a member of The Loyal Order of The Moose # 2785 and was a member and past commander of American Legion Post # 30 and the 40/ 8. Mr. Gonzalez was preceded in death by the mother of two of his children, Joyce Earline Gonzalez, two brothers, Genero Gonzalez and Ricardo Gonzalez, a sister, Alice M. Nelson and a grandson, W. Keith Hudgins.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila White of Tallahassee, FL, two sons, Danny Gonzalez and his wife, Pam of Albany, GA and Geoffrey Gonzalez and his wife, K. Charise of Leesburg, GA, eight grandchildren, Shelly Cooper and her husband, Vic of Tallahassee, FL, Kimberly Blackledge and her husband, James of Lake Park, GA, Wrenn Wilbanks and his wife, Jennifer of Jacksonville, FL, Danielle Gonzalez of New York, NY, Brandon Gonzalez and Joshua Gonzalez both of Albany, GA, Austin and Drake Brann of Leesburg, GA, eleven great-grandchildren, Courtney, Wyatt Hall, Saxton, Kody, Taylor, Payton, Rylen, Ethan, Austin, Evan and Wyatt Blackledge.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
