Elizabeth Gamble was born in East McKeesport, PA, to Marshall and Jesse Gamble. As a Methodist minister's daughter, her childhood was filled with the frequent moves that vocation involves. She was blessed with a Godly mother who kindled the fires of faith, love, and service in her heart; those burned bright for 93 years. As a teen in Johnson City, TN, she met the boy who would become her soulmate. Charles and Elizabeth were married, and nurtured a family of six children with faith and love that continues to grow in an ever-widening circle of family and friends. Her tender heart, and love for all has touched many lives.
An undergraduate degree from Asbury College, and a Master’s in Education from Georgia Southwestern College prepared her for a career in elementary education in Dougherty County schools. Her passion for teaching and love of children inspired her students and her own children with a love for learning. Elizabeth enjoyed family get together, and camping trips to the mountains and beach. Summer camping treks even included journeys covering thousands of miles, many weeks, and most of the Western United States, Canada, and Mexico. Charlie and Elizabeth loved to visit family, friends, and children even if the journey was long (Illinois, Kansas, California, Oregon, Arizona, Hawaii, and many more).
In retirement, they purchased a beach house to share with loved ones. Elizabeth also loved to sew. In her later years, assisted by her daughter, niece, caregivers, and others she made dozens and dozens of quilts for family, friends, and countless nursing home residents.
Some might call her old fashion or set in her ways, but all whose lives she touched knew one thing for certain: No matter who you were, what you believed or didn't believe, or what you had done, you knew she loved you. Love never dies. Mrs. Mott was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall L. Gamble and Jesse Handley Gamble, husband, Charles Howard Mott, daughter, Melanie Diane Cooper, granddaughter, Allison Mott and a daughter-in-law, Carole Mott.
Survivors include her children, Leland Mott (Anita), Albany, GA, Marshall Mott, Pensacola, FL, Lisa Schreiber (Frank), Albany, GA, Kevin Mott (Wendy), Lillian, AL, Steve Mott, Phoenix, AZ, twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A special thanks to all the caregivers throughout her illness.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
