Elizabeth "Betty" Joyce Faircloth

Elizabeth “Betty” Joyce Faircloth, 84, of Sumter County, GA, died May 19, 2023 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA.  A memorial service will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.  Mr. Ross Powell will officiate.

Betty was born in Bainbridge, GA on December 1, 1938 to the late Admiral Dewey and Fannie Lou Connell.  She grew up in Cairo, GA and graduated from Cairo High School in 1957.  Betty married Orbie Faircloth in 1956 and lived in Albany, GA before moving to Americus, GA in 1995 and loved staying at St. Georges Island.

Betty was a homemaker, worked on the farm, was an Artist, specializing in Portraits, Landscapes and Beach Scenes.  She was the best Cook, loved horses and always spoke her mind.

Survivors include her husband Orbie Faircloth of Americus, GA, a son, Todd (Belinda) Faircloth of Terrell County, GA, a daughter, Cathy (Wesley) Tailaferro of St. Georges Island, FL, seven siblings, Robert (Nell) Connell of Cairo, GA, Sarah (Wallace) Faircloth of Albany, GA, Elbert Connell of Tifton, GA, Jerry (Linda) Connell of Thomasville, GA, Janice (Bobby) Bell of Cairo, GA, Tommy (Kay) Connell of Cairo, GA and Vicki (Bill) Covington, Dallas, TX, four grandchildren, Dusty (Vicki) Walsh of Lee County, GA, Misty Faircloth of Palm Harbor, FL, Blake Walsh and Amanda (Shaun) Nichols all of  Lee County, GA and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
