Edwin G. Cooke, Sr., 86, of Albany, GA died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Phoebe North Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Cook and Rev. Hugh Chatham will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens with Military Honors.
Mr. Cooke was born December 14, 1925 in Lake City, SC to William Zingle Cook and Irene Smith Cook. He had resided in Albany since 1964, having moved from Cheyenne, WY. Mr. Cooke served our nation in the Navy on the U.S.S. Massachusetts, in the Army on the ground in Korea and later retired from the Air Force. He worked in Civil Service for the Marine Corps Logistics Base. A devout Christian, Mr. Cooke was a member of Gillionville Baptist Church. For many years he helped care for those with special needs and drove a church bus. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of sixty two years, Cynthia Grace Cooke of Albany, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcene and Bob Taylor of Sautee, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Jan Cooke of Paris, KY; a brother, Edgar Cook of California; three grandsons, Scott Miller, Ryan Cooke and Daniel Cooke; a granddaughter, Lori Cooke and one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
