Edward N. Simmons

Edward N. "Ed" Simmons, Sr. (US Air Force, Ret.), 83, of Albany, GA, died December 23, 2016 at Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home with a viewing being held at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate. A committal service will be held January 9, 2017 at 1:00 PM (CST) at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Bessemer, AL with Military Honors.
A native of Bessemer, AL, born to the late Pallas and Annie Simmons, he graduated from Bessemer High School and joined the United States Air Force. During his career in the Air Force, he served in Vietnam and enjoyed being a DJ for numerous Military Radio Stations.
After his military retirement, he started a career in hotel management traveling the country. He settled in Albany, GA in 1979 and was employed with Ramada Inn for twenty-six years, serving a Manager of the hotel and P-II supper club. Mr. Simmons was active with the Albany Chamber of Commerce, Easter Seals and enjoyed a post-retirement career with Lowes and Hambrick Welding.
Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Simmons of Albany, GA, three daughters, Tina (Jerry) Cass of Maryville, TN, Lisa (Tony) Buck and Laura Hageny (Betty Hester) all of Albany, GA, five sons, Patrick Wilson of Albany, GA, Edward N. Simmons, Jr., David Simmons, and Peter Simmons all of Honolulu, HI, and Michael Simmons of Colorado, a brother, Ralph Simmons (Gloria Surrette) of Navarre, FL and two grandchildren, Ashlee Buck and Anthony Buck both of Albany, GA. He was preceded in death by his father Pallas N. Simmons, Jr. of Bessemer, AL, his mother Annie Cole Simmons of Bessemer, AL, his sister Barbara Skelton of McCalla, AL and his brother William "Bill" Simmons of Bessemer, AL.
The family will receive friends at the home of Tony and Lisa Buck on Monday Evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 107 Dale Drive in Albany, GA.
