Edward James (SFC, US Army, Ret.)

Edward James (SFC, US Army, ret.), 80, of Albany, GA, formerly of Columbus, GA, died December 27, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12:00 PM at Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors. Rev. Greg Davis will officiate.

A native of Choctaw Bluff, AL, born to Henry and Ethel James, Mr. James received his Bachelor's Degree from Troy State University. He joined the United States Army in 1954. He was a career soldier, serving in Korea and two tours in Vietnam and other posts in Germany and Italy.

After his retirement from the United States Army in 1975, Mr. James was employed with the State of Georgia Department of Health as an inspector for twenty three years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Mr. James was also a member of the American Legion and Ft. Benning Masonic Lodge # 579 F & AM.

Survivors include his wife, Ingeburg (Inge) James of Albany, GA, two sons, Bob James and his wife, Connie of Conover, NC and Frank Krause and his wife, Suzanne of Tyler, TX, two daughters, Bebe Hale of Albany, GA and Teta Neuner and her husband, Bob of Holts Summit, MO, two brothers, John Henry James and his wife, Betty and Willie James all of Choctaw Bluff, AL, five sisters, Mary Law, Veatlas Grant, Annie Melia Jackson and Bernell James all of Choctaw Bluff, AL and Ethel Lee Knight and her husband, John of San Francisco, CA, three grandchildren, Tabatha Barber and her husband, Evan of Albany, GA, Emily James of Plainsboro, NJ and Casey Neuner of St. Louis, MO and his great-grandchildren, Elsa Barber and Townes Barber (due in March).

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
