Edward Gerald Herrod, 76, of Albany, GA, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA, with military honors. Dr. Ronald R. Baxley will officiate.
A native of Waynesburg, PA, Mr. Herrod was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the US Marine Corps and the Georgia National Guard after thirty years of service. After military retirement, Mr. Herrod was employed with Andersonville National Cemetery, until his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith and preceded in death by a daughter Nancy Karen Massey and his wife Mary Lois Culpepper Herrod.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Gerald Herrod, Jr. and Cary Herrod, both of Albany, GA, two daughters, Mary Jane Etherton, Albany, GA and Sabrina Miller, Odessa, TX, two brothers, Dick Herrod, Waynesburg, PA and Paul Herrod, Burgestown, PA, three sisters, Anna Harmon, Washington State, Ruth Wade, Waynesburg, PA, Leona Lemmon, Rices Landing, PA, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family is at the residence of Ed and Jennifer Herrod, 202 Redbud Rd., Albany, GA.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
