Dr. George Andrew Dillard, Sr., O.D.

Dr. George Andrew Dillard, Sr., O.D., 81 of Albany, GA died Friday, January 26, 2024 at Willson Hospice House. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10,2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Mr. Ross Powell and Dr. James D. Dillard will officiate. 

Dr. Dillard was born in Griffin, GA to the late James and Helen Bostwick Dillard. He later moved to Albany, GA and was an active member of the community. Dr. Dillard owned and operated Dillard Eye Clinic for many years. He enjoyed an occasional round of golf and socializing at Doublegate Country Club. Dr. Dillard was a member of the Georgia Optometric Association. 

Dr. Dillard was a very caring person who was deeply loved and appreciated by his patients, friends and family.  He always had jokes or funny commentary on just about everything! This was the way he always kept people smiling even in the worst of times and was a very endearing quality about him. He was an avid reader and always had his nose in book. He never missed a Georgia Bulldogs or Atlanta Braves or Falcons game on tv.

After selling his practice many years ago, he continued to serve patients and stay busy by working at the Walmart Vision Center in Albany and was beloved by his coworkers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne Dillard and his son George “Little George” Andrew Dillard. 

He is survived by his daughters, Jessica Dillard Czentnar and Wendy Dillard Butler, his grandchildren, Jenna Dillard, Dylan Butler, Ella Butler, Kaylee Czentnar and Kendall Czentnar, his brother, James Dillard and his nephews, Ryan Dillard, Bret Dillard and Casey Dillard.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in memory of Dr. Dillard to the Albany Humane Society, 1705 W. Oakridge Dr, Albany, GA 31707.
