Dr. David E. Johnson, M.D.

David E. Johnson, MD, 61, of Albany, GA died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at his residence. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Nancy Scarbrough will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the parlor at Porterfield.

David was born in Akron, OH and grew up in Shelby, NC. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1969 and joined the United States Navy, where he served during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1975.

David graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC in 1978 and graduated from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC in 1984. Following a residency and fellowship in Pediatrics at Bowman Gray, David moved his family to Albany, GA twenty years ago. He began practicing medicine at the Albany Area Primary Health Care and then joined the Albany Pediatrics Practice.

David was a member of the Episcopal Church, was an active member of the Mid Georgia Miata Club in Warner Robins, GA and loved animals. He dedicated his life to caring for the children of Southwest Georgia.

Survivors include his wife, La Vern Johnson of Albany, GA, two sons, Daniel Johnson and his wife, Peggy of Albany, GA, and Douglas Johnson of Panama City, FL, his mother, Vivien Edgertown of Cornelius, NC, his step-mother, Mary Johnson of Panama City Beach, FL, three brothers, Mark Johnson of Cornelius, NC, Erick Johnson and Ben Johnson and his wife, Katy all of Panama City, FL, a sister, Jennifer Johnson of Cornelius, NC, his mother-in-law, Nadine Oldham of Albany, GA, four nieces, Mai Johnson of Cornelius, NC and Reese Johnson and Riley-Kate Johnson both of Panama City, FL and Jessica Shelton of Melbourne, FL, a nephew, Michael Shelton of Kingman, AZ, a brother-in-law, William Shelton of Kingman, AZ and his aunt and uncle, Bob and Barbara Jones of Akron, OH and their children, Lynda, Diane and Kathy. David was preceded in death by his father, Robert Clyde Johnson, Jr. and his brothers, Dennis Johnson and Steven Johnson.
