Dr. Charles Rice Harden, DVM, 84, of Albany, GA died Monday, December 17, 2018 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. William Collins and Rev. Eddie Braswell will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus, GA with Military Honors provided by the American Legion.
Born in Americus, GA to Rice M. Harden and Lollie Chapman Harden, Dr. Harden was raised in Albany, GA and graduated from Albany High School in 1952. He attended the University of Chattanooga on a football scholarship, and transferred to the University of Georgia and graduated from the School of Veterinary Science and received his Doctorate from Emory University. Dr. Harden practiced veterinary medicine for over fifty years and was the owner of the Harden Veterinary Clinic. He was a member of the National, State, and the Dougherty County Veterinarian Medical Associations.
Dr. Harden served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Korea. He was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Charlie was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved going on dove and quail shoots with all his friends and was a great trainer of bird dogs. The quail population of South Georgia will now have a greater chance of replenishing.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Fleta B. Harden, Albany, GA, his daughter, Allison P. Harden, Destin, FL, his son, Charles R. “Chip” Harden, Jr., Cordele, GA, two step-children, Vicki D. Pullin (Lee), Cordele, GA, David W. Dorough (Shannon), Sunderland, MA, and his granddaughter, Jolie Elizabeth Harden, Cordele, GA. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Rice Harden, III.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
