Dr. Carl E. Findley Jr., D.M.D., of Albany, Georgia, died at his home, Whisperwood Plantation, on November 26, 2017. He was 70 years old. Dr. Findley was born in Ocilla, Georgia on January 17, 1947 to the late Carl E. Findley Sr. and Mary Lee Warren Findley. He attended Fitzgerald High School, where he led the Purple Hurricanes to victories in football and basketball. He attended Valdosta State University and Georgia Southwestern, excelling in math and science, and eventually won a coveted place at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, one of the nation’s top-ranked Dental Programs, where he excelled, graduating with honors in 1974. He returned to Southwest Georgia and opened his dental practice the same year, where he would provide the highest standard of dental care to generations of Georgians for 43 years. He pioneered advanced restorative and aesthetic techniques and brought innovations in implant dentistry to Southwest Georgia, sharing his passion for high-quality work with his colleagues and many patients. His work was recognized and admired nationally, having been conferred with the prestigious Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, as well as the Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition Award, one of less than 150 dentists in the entire nation to receive this honor. He was proud to serve as lead teaching faculty at the world-renowned Pankey Institute, in Miami, Florida, where he taught dentists from around the world advanced dental techniques, and his philosophy of always putting the patient first. Dr. Findley was an avid quail hunter and had a passion for his hunting plantation in Worth County, which he lovingly called “the farm,” and his legendary dogs. He was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Ann Livingston Findley, his sister, Gloria Louise Findley, his son, Dr. Carl E. Findley III and his wife, Jennifer Rose Findley, and his son Aaron Milton Findley and his wife, Beth Gillis. Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, November 29, at Pinson Memorial Methodist Church in Sylvester, Georgia. Internment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to Pinson Memorial Methodist Church, 109 E Pope St, Sylvester, GA 31791.
