Dorothy Wilson "Dotty" Matre, 94, of Albany, GA passed February 9, 2013 at Phoebe Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, GA on Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Born in Manny, LA and raised in Valdosta, GA, she lived a blessed life raising her family in Albany. With her mind and memory still sharp, she moved to Magnolia Manor in 2012. While at Magnolia Manor, she made several dear friends and enjoyed going to Sunday church service and having her hair done at the Manor. During her younger days, in Albany, she was a Pink Lady volunteer at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, was an avid bridge player, a member of the Junior League of Albany, and enjoyed traveling abroad. Dotty was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Albany.
Dotty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Marc “Bob†Matre, Sr., parents, Clifford and Vera Wilson and a sister, Vera Drynan. Survivors include her son, Marc Matre (Lynn Hyman) of Albany, grandsons, Rob Matre (Amy), Atlanta and Mike Matre (Joy), Leesburg and grandchildren, Jett, Atlanta, Parker, Emma, Riley and Mikayla Matre all of Leesburg, sister, Mary Sue Southgate, Bellingham, WA, friend and former daughter-in-law, Judy Matre, Jackson, GA and companions Willie Mae Robinson and Johnnie Kendrick, both of Albany.
A private memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Jones will officiate.
