Dorothy J. “Dot” McClain, 82, of Albany, GA, died April 11, 2018 at her home.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Avalon United Methodist Church. Rev. Debbie Cone will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. 

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Aubrey F. McClain of Albany, GA, three daughters and their husbands, Dana and Dr. Willis Hendley of Albany, GA, Laura and Robert Lancaster of St. Simons, GA and Tina and Keith Anthony of Lee County, GA, fourteen grandchildren, Sara and Tommy Boyd and Beth and Jonathan Beall all of Albany, GA, Rebecca and Kyle Houston and Mary and Brad Basko all of Lee County, GA, John and Katie Hendley of Camilla, GA, Joshua Hendley of Athens, GA, Abby Hendley of Albany, GA, Emmilee Lancaster of Atlanta, GA, Amelia Lancaster of Gainesville, GA, Ethan Lancaster of Athens, GA, Aubrey Lancaster of Kennesaw, GA, Rachael and Cody Heidler of Kathleen, GA, Allison and Ben Young and Hanna Anthony all of Albany, GA and eleven great-grandchildren. 

A native of Poulan, GA, born to the late David and Ruby Statham, Mrs. McClain grew up in Albany, GA and graduated from Albany High School in 1953. She graduated from Albany Junior College and received her Master’s Degree in Business from Albany State University. She was a homemaker, mother, and was employed with the Dougherty County Board of Education, where worked at Morningside Elementary, Merry Acres and retired as an Accountant with the Dougherty County Board of Education. Even after retirement, Mrs. McClain never truly stopped working, as she was always involved in missions and projects benefiting the community. 

Mrs. McClain was a member of Avalon United Methodist Church where she taught the Ladies’ Bible Class. She was an avid reader, a certified Master Gardener and was working on her Counselor Degree from Alpha Crisis Pregnancy Center. She truly had a heart for all people, for missions, and loved the Lord. 

The family will receive friends Friday, April 13, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
