Doris Evelyn Krumel Preston, 73, of Albany, GA died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Her remains have been cremated and a visitation will be held Thursday February 26, 2015 at Mathews Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Mrs. Preston was born August 23, 1941 to Frank Charles and Evelyn Doris Fischer Krumel at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Elizabeth New Jersey. She graduated in June 1959 from Brick Township High School where she was awarded a Mathis Fund Scholarship to Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. In 1962 Mrs. Preston earned a degree in Elementary Education and an Art Award in Tapestry Art from Monmouth University. She worked at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in the Public Works Department from 1964 until 1966 where she earned the Benny Sugg Award in Public Works.
In 1966 she married Richard Leroy Preston and moved to Rota, Spain where her son, Richard Leroy Preston was born the same year and her daughter, Denise Suzanne Preston was born in 1967 at Rota NS Hospital, moved to Jacksonville, FL, NAS where her son, Gregory Charles Preston was born in 1968 and finally to Turner Field in Albany, GA where her daughter, Marsha Wynne Preston was born in 1971.
Mrs. Preston worked at the United States Marine Corp Logistics Base at their school from 1971 until 1973 and served on their Board of Directors and Kindergarten Teaching Staff. She continued her work from 1973 until 1989 as a Kindergarten Para Professional and Second Grade Teacher and earned several awards at the Albany Mall in their art exhibitions during school holidays. Mrs. Preston enrolled at Albany State University in Business Administration and was continuously on the Dean’s List.
Hired in 1991 at Wal-Mart in Overnight Receiving, she was employed for over twenty years. She was a past member of the Dougherty County Educations association, NEA, the Georgia Association of Educators, served as a Boy Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Leader and a life time member of The Junior Girls of the LAVFW for over forty years. At her death, Mrs. Preston was a Mat Card Artist.
She is survived by her sons, Richard LeRoy Preston and Gregory Charles Preston, her daughters, Denise Suzanne Preston Kerce and her husband, John and Marsha Wynne Preston Sablan and her husband, Ben, her grandchildren, Patrick Preston, Aaron Preston, Cassandra Preston, Alexander Sablan, Aidan Sablan, Kirsten Kearce, Olivia Kearce, Rob Preston, Nathan Preston and Trey Kearce, her sister, Lynn Diane Lockwood of Brick, NJ and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
