We are sad to inform you that our energetic, optimistic, fun-loving, generous and always bubbly, Doris Edith Mitchell, known and loved as “Dede”, (69) of Albany, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 6th, 2022, after a battle with cancer only recently discovered. Her memorial service will be held Friday, December 9th, 2022 at Mathews Funeral Home at 5:00 pm. Rev. Bobby Joe Brown will officiate. A “Dede Celebration of Life” to follow at her home. (295 Wiregrass Way)
Dede was surrounded by her closest family and fought fiercely with strength and her faith in God. She was an amazing wife, mother and “Dede” to her grandbabies, and a dedicated and committed sister to her nine siblings, who will have an everlasting impact on every life she touched. Her dedication, care, and love for her husband in his final fourteen years of life were unparalleled. She enjoyed loving on and bragging about her seven “babies” (grandbabies and great grand babies) more than anything in the world. Dede’s love of life, her optimism, and her energy will be forever etched in all that were blessed to know her.
Doris was Born in Ocala, Florida on November 15th, 1953, to Mary Lou & Arthur Juel Bartlett. She lived in Albany, Georgia most of her life and retired from Red Lobster after working there for forty plus years. Doris was preceded in death by her late husband Grover Thompson Mitchell and her late brother Mike Bartlett.
Survivors include her son Thompson Jacob “TJ” Mitchell, daughter-in-law Nicole Mitchell, daughter Melissa Mitchell Poppell, son-in-law Mark Poppell, daughter Lisa Mitchell Wright, son-in-law Tard Wright, and daughter Michelle Mitchell.
Survivors also include her seven grandchildren, Grover & Wyatt Mitchell; Peyton, Bella & Blake Poppell; Quin & Drew Wright; and her three great grandchildren, Samuel Wright; and Amelia & Charles Wright.
Doris was one of ten children to Mary Lou & Arthur Juel Bartlett. Surviving siblings include Sunnie Pedigo, Jack Bartlett, Janice & Lamar Edwards, Sandi Jo Walker, Wayne & Leeola Bartlett, Mary Ann Bartlett (late Mike Bartlett), Maggie Bartlett, Scott & Gaile Bartlett, and Rhonda Bartlett, and so many loving nieces and nephews.
Dede was loved by so many and we will all be forever comforted by her strong, embracing hugs and everlasting spirit.
