Doris Mae Alley

Doris Mae Alley, 102, was taken to Heaven by Angels on January 11, 2025. She died peacefully at Lee County Health and Rehabilitation center in Leesburg Georgia. A memorial service and interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church at 10 am on Friday Jan 24. Rev. Mackey will officiate. 

Doris was born in Atlanta, GA on September 2, 1922 to Thomas Cleveland and Jessie Lillian Anderson. She grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Drum Hills High School. 

Doris met her future husband, David Alley in Albany, Georgia and they married in Cobb County, 1941. Doris was a proud Rosie Riveter in World War II, while David was serving his country in the Pacific for several years. She spent many years serving as a Red Cross Volunteer giving back to her community and supporting those in need. Doris spent over 25 years traveling around the world as a Military Spouse, living in the Philippines, Okinawa, Alaska and many other places before moving back to Albany, GA in 1972 from Fairfield, CA, when David retired from the Air Force. 

She was very active in the Albany community, where she was a member of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church and served as a member of The Daughters to The King. Doris also volunteered at Palmyra Medical Center, was a member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of The Elk # 713 and The American Legion Auxiliary Post # 30. She also served as a volunteer at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and the Golden Key Club. She enjoyed arts and crafts, bridge, and travel. 

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, David Edward Alley, her Grandson Michael Alley, her sister Sara Green Foster and Brother Richard Anderson. Surviving family members include her sons, Dickson and (Nancy) Alley, Donald and (Yvonne) Alley, grandchildren Christopher Alley, Laura Alley Lee, Justin Alley, Samantha Alley, Nikki Alley Moreland, Great Grand Children Levi and Elijah, her niece Martha Ramsey and dear friends, Holly Stump, Theresa Denton, Ann Young and Marian White. 

Those desiring to make memorials in memory of Doris may give donations to St Patrick's Episcopal Church, 4800 Old Dawson Road, Albany Ga.
