Dorinda Nelson Ouzts, 62, of Lee County, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, September 22, 2023 at Philema Road Baptist Church with interment at 3:00 PM in Douglas City Cemetery. Rev Aaron McCulley officiating. The family will receive friends starting a 9:00 AM Friday at Philema Road Baptist Church.
Born in McRae, and raised in Eastman, GA, Mrs. Ouzts, retired from the Dougherty County School System as a Media Specialist. She loved her God, her family and her church, Philema Road Baptist Church. She was such a faithful person and always strived to set an example of Christ in all that she did. She loved her family and would always encourage them to treat others in a way that would lead them to Christ. She was an accountant by trade and carried those principles in her life. Upon obtaining her CPA license she began in the public sector at a local CPA firm in Albany. While working in the private sector of finance, she worked as a controller for Wetherbee Electric and an accounting manager for Wetherbee Enterprises, where she made lifelong friendships. Upon transitioning to education, she used her training and experiences to teach others the necessary skills to be successful in business and technology. In keeping with her values, she genuinely cared about other people and found value in taking an active role in the molding of their lives. She also was a lifelong learner and always wanted to research and stay well informed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Jewell Wilkes Nelson.
Survivors include her husband, Travis James (Jim) Ouzts, III, son Jonathan Ouzts (Jessica), daughter, Caralyn Ouzts Hunter (Jon), grandchildren, Riley Jewell Ouzts, Amelia Nell Ouzts, Henry Nelson Hunter, Vala Grace Hunter all of Lee County, brothers, Clark Nelson (Pat) of Moultrie, Bobby Nelson (Arlene) of Smyrna, Jeff Nelson (Lynn) of Blackshear, sister in laws, Kathy Corley (Wayne) and Mary Kay Schlenk (Phil).
