1stLt. Donald E. Wolf, U.S.M.C (ret), of Albany, died Monday, September 9, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer.
His funeral service will be Friday 12 noon at Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Ross Powell will officiate.
He was born on March 31, 1936 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Ethel Cornett Wolf and Herbert Wolf. He grew up in Blackwell, OK with his mother, step-father Lloyd Magers, sister Juanita and brother Jerry.
When he was 17 years old, he joined the Marines and began his life adventure. He served and fought in the Korean War, and served two tours in Vietnam. He served 22 years on active duty and was awarded numerous medals including the Bronze Star with Combat V, a Combat action ribbon, a Korea service medal and a Vietnam service medal with 6 battle stars. He was also a decorated expert marksman. He held every enlisted rank, from Private to Master Sergeant until he was tendered a commission as a Second Lieutenant and accepted. After he left active duty, as a First Lieutenant, he went to work at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, GA as an equipment specialist. He retired in 1999 after 19 years as a supervisory logistic management specialist.
He had a love for the outdoors and a passion for fishing. During the spring and summer in Georgia, he spent much of his time on Lake Eufaula and the Flint River catching flathead catfish, crappie, largemouth and shoal bass. His freezer was always full of his perfectly filleted catch and he held frequent fish fries for his friends and family. We have so many fond memories of Papa’s fish fries. He will be most remembered for his kindness, his wit, and the care and attention to detail he gave to so many aspects of life.
