Donald Bruce Henderson

Donald Bruce Henderson Sr. of Albany, GA passed away Sunday (December 21, 2014) at his home. He was born to Charlie and Louise Henderson of Waycross Georgia on April 25, 1928.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 26 at 11:00 at the Crown Hill Mausoleum Chapel. Mr. Jimmy Brown will officiate.

Bruce was a military veteran and served our county in the Air Force during the Korean War, upon leaving the military service he became a construction worker and married the love of his life, Ouida Aldrich of Patterson, GA in 1956. In construction, he did plaster and stucco work to complete many buildings in Waycross and surrounding areas. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waycross, GA.

In 1966, Bruce and Ouida moved to Albany where Bruce opened a mobile lubrication business called HenderLube. This led him to create Henderson Petroleum Company in Albany which operated several businesses in the Albany area. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, and was past President of the Civitan Club and always enjoyed delivering "Meals on Wheels" in the area.

Those who knew Bruce will remember him as always wanting to laugh and tell a funny story to make people smile. He loved his family and always welcomed others into it by hosting three foreign exchange students from Japan, Chile and Ecuador. Over the years, the exchange students always kept in contact with their American parents and visited when possible, with the last visit by Reiko (from Japan) this past October. During their marriage of 58 years, Ouida and Bruce traveled Europe, South America and Asia. He was preceded in death by a sister Violet Buchanan of Beverly Hills, FL.

Bruce is survived by his wife Ouida, Albany, GA, their three children, Bruce Henderson, Jr. (Cherie), Dallas, Texas, Jo Ann Houser (Larry), Kansas City, Missouri and Janet Henderson, Tampa, Florida, three grandchildren, Trey Henderson, Montgomery, Alabama, Stacy Holt (Andy), Pennsylvania, Juli Ruiz) (Saul), Independence, Missouri and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Keith Henderson (Kate), Albany Georgia.


The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Crown Hill Mausoleum.
