Donald "Don" J. Parton

CWO3 Donald J. “Don” Parton (USMC Ret.) 88, of Albany, GA, died July 22, 2023 at his residence. A visitation will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted Monday at 6:00 pm during the visitation. There will be a private family service at a later date.

Don was born in Fulton, KY on Dec. 10, 1934, to Russell and Dorothy Parton.  He graduated from Fulton High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1954 and served twenty-one years.  Don moved from San Diego, CA to Albany, GA in 1971 for his last station.  Don received his Batchelor Degree from Albany State University.  He met Linda Lovett in 1993 and they married in 1995. 

After Don retired, he was employed with the Marine Corps Logistic Base Albany for nineteen years and was the Marine Corps Exchange Officer of the Marine Corps Exchange Service.  He attended Gillionville Baptist Church, was a long and loyal member of Stonebridge Golf and Country Club. Don enjoyed Golf, traveling, cruising, tennis, early breakfast with his men friends and lunch every Wednesday with his tennis friends.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leisa Parton and his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Linda L. Parton of Albany, GA, children, Rick Waters (Ginna) of Camilla, GA and Matt Waters (Maureen) of Opelika, AL, Jay Dallas (Nancy), Albany, GA, Lori Peppel (Dan), Dayton Beach, FL, Sue Dallas, Albany, GA, thirteen grandchildren, , seventeen great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Jeneane Grimsley, Valdosta, GA.
