David James Gambrell

David James Gambrell, 77, of Arabi, GA formerly of Albany, GA, died August 8, 2015. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, August, 12, 2015 at 9:30 AM at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Cordele, GA. Rev. Scott Winchell will officiate. Interment will follow at 12:00 Noon at Andersonville National Cemetery. The Patriot Riders will escort the funeral procession to the cemetery.

A native of Greenville, SC, Mr. Gambrell graduated from Greenville High School and served in The United States Army during the Korean War. He moved to Albany, GA in 1971 and was employed with Security Bank until 1978. He also operated Gambrell Trans Mobile, Inc. from 1971 until 1990. Mr. Gambrell was the owner of Eastside Kountry Club from 1986 until 1996 and owned and operated his business, Just Pinestraw from 1978 until his retirement in 2010.

Mr. Gambrell served as a Dougherty County Commissioner for eight years, he served on the Housing Authority for four years and served on the Albany Planning Commission for four years. He was also a former President of the East Albany Kiwanis club and served three years as President of the Albany International Little League Association. Mr. Gambrell was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church of Cordele, GA.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Gambrell of Arabi, GA, a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Anita Gambrell of Arabi, GA, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jimmy Quattlebaum of Lake Blackshear, GA, a brother and sister-in-law, George and Carole Gambrell of Norman, OK, his grandchildren, Nicole Breeden and her husband, Lance of Edmond, OK, James Pearson of Groton, CT, Jonathan Pearson of Tallassee, AL and Tina Morefield and her husband, Jason of Saucier, MS and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James J. Gambrell and Ethel Jackson Jenkins and a brother, Kenny Gambrell.

A Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, August 11, 2015 and visitation will follow until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home
