On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, our sweet little David Paul Del Vecchio went to be with the Lord at the age of 51. He was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and cousin. He was born on September 12, 1971 in Malaga, Spain to Daniel and Rhoda Del Vecchio. He was born with Down Syndrome and required special attention due to the level of his disability. He resided the last eight years of his life at the ARC Briarwood Group Home, with the most wonderful staff that we are so thankful for. He passed away at Dawson Manor Health and Rehabilitation.
Memorial services will be held at Mathews Funeral Home Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 5:00 pm. Pastor Barry Butters will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
David is survived by his father, Daniel Del Vecchio, his siblings Daniel Amado Del Vecchio, his sister Deborah and her husband Barry Butters, his sister Rebecca Lynn Del Vecchio, his aunt Ella Talvy, nieces and nephews, Mumu and Ben Lassiter, and an extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother Rhoda Del Vecchio.
David was loved by all who came to know him; he couldn't communicate in the traditional sense, but he was affectionate and gentle. David had an infectious smile, angelic sweet gentle spirit and enjoyed watching Bonanza, Gunsmoke and the Andy Griffith show. He enjoyed his envelopes and his Christian Gospel Music. David was very special and his friendly personality and beautiful smile made people feel comfortable. He had a pure spirit. Most importantly he was loved, and he has left a special place in everyone's heart.
We will be eternally grateful to his grandmother Anna Del Vecchio, Aunt Erma and Cousin Dorothy Anzaldo, who so sacrificially and lovingly raised David for many years, to his Church family in Leesburg, Florida, to all the ARC personnel who took care of him and loved him during his 8 years in the Briarwood Group Home and to the Dawson Manor staff who cared for him these last few months. David was one of those angels sent by God to bless our lives and now he has returned to the One who sent him.
David is now with the Lord and enjoying the Presence of God whom he loved and he is reunited and rejoicing with his mother and other family members who have gone on before.
The funeral will be broadcast Live on the Mathews Funeral Home Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/mathewsfh
