Dallas H. Powell, 93, of Lee Co., GA died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Wynfield Park Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Pastor Bobby Moye will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors.

A native of Decatur Co., GA, Mr. Powell had lived in Albany, GA since 1940, moving to Lee Co., GA 1981. He was a veteran of World War II serving his country as a member of the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Cleveland. He served during the North Atlantic landing at Casablanca, North Africa, Pacific Theatre. Also, he continued to serve in numerous military engagements in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Powell received the award for Outstanding Heroism for action in a World War II naval battle. Mr. Powell served for forty-three years with Southern Bell Telephone Company. In addition, he operated a registered Black Angus cattle farm in Lee County, GA from 1962 until 1987.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Flo Bentley Powell, his parents, John Bernard Powell, Sr. and Rosa Cornelia Thompson Powell, two infant sons, four sisters, Ernestine Hilburn, Flora Davis, Martha McDaniel and Janette Humphrey and three brothers, Hardy Powell, Clayton Powell and J. B. Powell, Jr. Mr. Powell was a dedicated and devout Christian, a devoted family man, and a staunch American patriot. He was a person of integrity and high moral standards. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Albany, a charter member of Sherwood Baptist Church and most recently Byne Memorial Baptist Church. He served these churches in various leadership positions through the years.

Survivors include his daughter, Gwen P. Owen, Lee Co, GA, his grandson, Andrew Owen (Allison), Quitman, GA and his granddaughter, Amanda Sheets (Bryan), Lake Oswego, OR as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
