Craig Steven Mathis, 55, of Newton, GA died Friday, April 7, 2017 at his residence. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Pastor Danny Evans, Judge Jim Thurman, and Mr. Don Dellinger will officiate.
Born in Macon, GA, Mr. Mathis had resided in Albany, GA most of his life and later moved to Lee Co., GA before moving to Newton, GA. He was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern College and received his doctorate degree in law from the University of Georgia. He practiced law as a defense attorney and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ann Connell Mathis.
Survivors include Candi Mathis, Newton, GA, two daughters, Miranda Mathis (Adam Campbell), Albany, GA, Kaitlyn Massey (Josh), Chesapeake, VA, his father and step mother, Dawson Mathis and Cathy Jo Mathis, Nashville, GA, three brothers, Tony Mathis (Cynde), Jacksonville, FL, Jason Mathis (Misty), Albany, GA, Rusty Mathis (Leigh), Leesburg, GA, maternal grandfather, Ellis Connell, Nashville, GA and a granddaughter, Vayda Campbell.
