Clifford S. "Shine" Simpson, 68, of Albany, GA, died Monday, September 5, 2011 at Willson Hospice House. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Billy Joe Butler will officiate.
A native of Arlington, GA, he moved from Baker County to Albany, GA in 1976. Mr. Simpson proudly served in the US Army in Korea. During his life, "Shine" played and coached all sports but particularly excelled in softball, where his team was ranked 7th in the World in the year 1990-1991 with the Moose Club. Mr. Simpson retired from the United States Marine Logistics Base with thirty two years of service.
He was a member of American Legion Post # 30 and a lifetime member of VFW Post # 2785. Mr. Simpson was a member and past master of Milford Lodge # 181 F&AM and was a Baptist by faith. He was recently preceded in death by his wife, Janet Watson Simpson and was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary (Jordan) Simpson, a brother, Billy Simpson and sisters, Rose Nell Roberts and Shirley Ann Trammell.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann (Hut) Verner of Fortson, GA, a step- daughter, Kellianne (Ryan) Tarrer of Leesburg, GA, two sisters Catherine Green of Cuthbert, GA, and Gladys Lee Simpson of Houston, TX, three brothers Johnny Simpson of Arlington, GA, Walter (Claudia) Simpson of Hartselle, AL, and Clifford Frank (Sonja) Simpson of Yorktown, VA, four grandchildren, Dusty Thomas of Columbus, GA, Catilyn Adams, Christian Adams and JulieAnn Adams all of Leesburg, GA and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please may make contributions to the Willson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA 31707.
The family will receive friends following the service at cemetery.
