Claire M. Gordon, 76, of Albany, GA, died July 25, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. The Reverend Robert Green will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Gordon was born in Unadilla, GA to the late Paul and Hazel Moore. She graduated from Vienna High School, obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education from Georgia Southern College and earned her Master of Science in Education from Georgia Southwestern College. Mrs. Gordon moved from Dooly County, GA to Albany, GA in 1963. She taught fourth grade in Dougherty County for fourteen years and at Twin Oaks Elementary in Lee County for sixteen years before retiring in 1997. She was an active member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, the Albany Women’s Club, Lee County Retired Educators, PEO, and the Beta Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa.
Survivors include her husband, John J. Gordon of Albany, GA, her children, Jay Gordon of McDonough, GA, a daughter, Gwendolyn C. Gordon of Vinings, GA, her brother, Lenwood W. Moore of Kathleen, GA, her sister, Paula Newman of Macon, GA, her daughter-in-law, Linda Gordon of Athens, GA, three grandchildren, Adam Stuckart of Anderson, SC, Cole Allison and Katy Allison both of Athens, GA and one great-grandchild, Bennett Abraham Johnson of Athens, GA.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
