William R. (Chief Rattlesnake) Jackson, Sr., 89, died July 2, 2018 at his residence in Mitchell County, GA. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Tift County, GA. Rev. Douglas Hatcher will officiate. The American Legion Post # 30 will provide Military Honors.
A native of Moultrie GA, he was born to the late Henry and Lizzie Jackson. After school, Mr. Jackson joined the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. After his service he returned to Colquitt County, GA and share cropped. He soon moved to Albany, GA where he was employed with the Marine Corps Logistic Base.
Mr. Jackson was a member and Chief of The American Cherokee Confederacy. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Game Breeders Association of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Clarine Jackson,
Survivors include his children, William R. (Randy) Jackson, Jr. of Mitchell County, GA, Susan Claire Custer and her husband, Homer of El Paso, TX and Paulette Hopper of Doerun, GA, his grandchildren, Rebecca (Todd) Black of Ft. Knox, KY and Lee (Miranda) Hamm of Moultrie, GA and his great-grandchildren, Abby Hamm, Samantha Hamm, Kaylee Black and T.J. Black.
Mr. Jackson will lie in state during the day on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Mathews Funeral Home.
